Roll cooling systems
Optimize your rolling mill with the use of GRIP zone cooling.
Roll cooling systems
Optimize your rolling mill with the use of GRIP zone cooling.

GRIP Engineering stands for incomparable quality and reliability.
The selective roll cooling systems are extremely low-maintenance due to the use of the continuously improved valve. They have proven themselves for decades under the toughest conditions in the world market. The electrically operated valves operate virtually maintenance-free over millions of switching cycles thanks to their seal-free design.
Cooling systems for new rolling mills are developed together with the customers. When retrofitting existing cooling systems, we always find an ideal solution that enables customers to modernize existing rolling mills with minimal downtime.
GRIP Engineering’s selective cooling systems work with all available shape meter rolls and are available in different cooling zone widths.
Steel rolling mills
Areas of Application
Optimal solutions for
Cold rolling mills
Hot rolling mills
For installation in
Tandem plants
One-way plants
Reversing plants
Flatness control systems
Tailor-made zone cooling systems for all common flatness control systems (AFC) to 4-high and 6-high rolling mills.
Control system connection
Possibility of integration on all existing control systems by means of open interface, BUS and manufacturer independent.
Cooling zone widths
We supply all typical zone widths such as
25 mm, 26 mm, 50 mm, 52 mm
or according to individual customer requirements.
Nozzle alignment
The free arrangement of the spray nozzles allows optimum roll wetting and nip lubrication with the best possible flatness results.
Installation
The cooling bars are manufactured with high precision. The assembly points are optimally planned for the specific plant in order to reduce the downtime of the rolling mill during installation to a minimum.
Material selection
Execution of the chilled beams according to customer specifications in steel or stainless steel.
Corrosion resistance
High-quality material selection for the valve parts ensures corrosion resistance when using commercially available coolants as well as emulsions and rolling oils.
Cooling medium variations
Due to a possible multi-chamber design of the chilled beams, plants can be operated with different pressures or coolant temperatures.
Common applications:
Base + Additional cooling.
Switching times
Plant optimization due to extremely fast reaction and switching times of the valves of less than 20 milliseconds
GRIP Advantage
The replacement of existing multistage cooling bars (3/5 zones) by a GRIP system with modern multi-zone cooling allows a significant improvement of the end product.
- increase in production
- quality improvement
- Low inspection and maintenance costs
- Short downtimes for maintenance work
As an ideal replacement for existing pneumatically controlled cooling systems, the customer benefits from:
- increase in production
- quality improvement
- Low inspection and maintenance costs
- Short downtimes for maintenance work
